Does it have to be hooked up to a water to a water supply , or do you fill tank up with water?

It is recommended to be used with a supply that is steadily producing the GPM that the pump requires, so it does not run dry.
A fill tank can be used, but you will run the risk of running the pump dry. Consider placing the tank above the pump to product coulomb pressure.
