Hello,
If you are using the original components and its not going in its likely because you have some mineral deposit happening or you have an obstruction like a rock. Consider spraying a lubricant onto the spring. then,( assuming your o-rings are in good shape / not cracked or missing) with some petroleum Jelly, saturate your O-ring.
Let the lubricant work a bit, then with a small Phillips make sure the spring is functioning as normal. by depressing it a bit.
Then test again.
